Microsoft Teams Meetings

Over the coming weeks we are moving from Skype for Business to Teams Meetings, our new videoconferencing system built-in our Microsoft 365 platform.

Teams Meetings is replacing Skype for Business.

The full Microsoft Teams platform will be introduced in two stages, initially starting with Teams Meetings in Stage 1.

Additional Teams collaboration features will be introduced in Stage 2.

All SSI staff will be moved to Microsoft Teams Meetings over one weekend starting from close of business Friday, 11 December 2020.

Microsoft Teams will be implemented in two stages:

Microsoft Teams is a digital hub for rich videoconferencing services and online collaboration. Initially Teams Meetings will replace Skype for Business. Teams offers many more features than just video conferencing, such as file sharing, channels and chats.

Teams Meetings will provide the whole organisation enhanced videoconferencing services. We are also making this move because Microsoft has announced Skype for Business Online will be retired July 2021.

SSI IT will be moving all SSI staff from Skype for Business to Microsoft Teams Meetings over one weekend starting from close of business Friday, 11 December 2020. All staff will be able to use Microsoft Teams Meetings from Monday, 14 December 2020.

We are changing our current online meetings video conferencing platform from Skype for Business to Microsoft Teams Meetings videoconferencing. Additional Teams collaboration features will be introduced early 2021. As part of the change your future Skype for Business calendar meeting block information will automatically be updated to Teams Meetings block information. Your calendar meetings information including attendees will be retained.

All SSI staff will be moved to Microsoft Teams Meetings. The change will occur over one weekend, the "migration weekend", starting from close of business Friday, 11 December 2020. Over the migration weekend (12 – 13 December 2020) your existing Skype based meetings in your Calendar will be updated automatically to Teams Meetings.

Please refer to Key Dates listed below to help you plan and prepare for your move to Microsoft Teams Meetings.

You are not required to perform any actions on your PC, Laptop or Calendar during the move to Teams Meetings.

Skype for Business and Teams Meetings are both Microsoft 365 apps, so during the move all Skype based meetings in your Calendar will be updated automatically to Teams Meetings.

• Download Teams mobile application - SSI IT will be adding the Teams mobile application to your iPhone’s Self Service Portal and will be available for download Monday, 14 December 2020.

• Join a Teams Training sessions - please take the time to join one of the training sessions on Microsoft Teams Meetings.

• Install Teams application - if your SSI PC or Laptop does not have he Teams application installed, select “Download the Windows app”, then follow the prompts. 

If a Windows Security Alert popup appears, select cancel.

When joining the live training session:

1. Select "Cancel"
